The BRICS Youth Summit has gathered passionate young individuals from the regions of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and Africa. Their mission: to raise their voices and demand action from the leaders.
Nomagugu Simelane, the Acting Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, delivered a resounding call to arms during her address at the summit. She challenged the youth to seize the moment, immerse themselves in the debates about their future, and bring their unique perspectives to the table.
“We must remember, we don’t just inherit the Earth; we merely borrow it from future generations. This places a great responsibility on each of us to rise up and embrace the infinite possibilities, while being mindful of those yet to come and the world they’ll inherit,” Simelane emphasized.
The Acting Premier urged the youth to engage in discussions and share brilliant ideas for a better, safer, and more prosperous future that’s also sustainable for the environment. She stressed the urgency of building an inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable BRICS in the face of climate change, environmental degradation, and inequality.
“You are the torchbearers of the future, and the consequences of our actions will be yours to bear. Let us work together to create a planet that not only survives but thrives, leaving a legacy of growth and development for generations to come,” she passionately declared.
Empowering young people lies at the core of the KwaZulu-Natal Government’s vision. They believe in fostering a culture that values youth contributions, listens to their ideas, respects their opinions, and provides them with leadership opportunities.
“We firmly believe that empowered youth can bring about real change in the world. They are the problem solvers, the change-makers, and the architects of a better tomorrow,” Simelane emphasized with enthusiasm.
The BRICS Youth Summit, held from 18th to 20th July 2023, brought together dynamic participants from diverse backgrounds. Their goal was to forge an actionable plan for cooperation in economic, humanitarian, media, and scientific spheres. The summit’s discussions centered on encouraging young leaders from BRICS nations to tackle global challenges, address economic and social issues, and actively contribute to developmental agendas.
The summit aimed to create an environment where youth empowerment thrives, and young minds envision a brighter, promising future for all. A future that radiates with the energy of ideas, the unity of purpose, and the spark of change.
