Morodi Vows to Root Out Corruption in Tshwane Municipality

Kholofelo Morodi, the City of Tshwane’s MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, has made a firm pledge to eradicate corruption within the municipality by implementing a robust anti-corruption strategy.

This commitment forms part of a broader effort to restore public trust and ensure the responsible management of municipal resources.

Morodi announced the launch of several initiatives designed to encourage the reporting of unethical conduct, safeguard whistleblowers, and strengthen internal investigations. These measures include new walk-in reporting facilities at Tshwane House, Sammy Marks, and Centurion, where citizens can report misconduct face-to-face.

Additionally, a dedicated hotline (080 TSHWANE) and confidential email address have been established to provide safe channels for whistleblowers to report irregularities anonymously.

Since the introduction of these mechanisms, over 900 cases have been investigated, indicating early success in uncovering and addressing corruption within municipal operations.

These efforts coincide with ongoing financial accountability initiatives under Mayor Nasiphi Moya’s leadership. The city has tackled a backlog of irregular expenditure amounting to R13 billion, with R11.7 billion already investigated and a further R1 billion expected to be cleared by the end of the current financial year. Tshwane has also been praised for reducing reckless expenditure by 21% in the 2023–2024 financial year, signaling meaningful progress in fiscal discipline.

Morodi emphasized that the fight against corruption requires sustained vigilance and community involvement. “By providing secure and accessible channels for reporting wrongdoing, we empower our residents to stand against corruption and help us uphold transparency,” she said.

The City of Tshwane’s comprehensive approach aims not only to punish wrongdoers but also to create a culture of integrity and accountability across all municipal departments. With these measures, Morodi and city leadership are sending a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated and that the municipality is committed to restoring good governance for its residents.
