Missing Kamogelo Baukudi Reunited with Family
Nineteen-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi has been safely reunited with his family after being kidnapped earlier this month. Abducted on June 5 while returning home from school in Bloemfontein, Kamogelo was found alive on June 27, 2025.
His disappearance sparked widespread concern and mobilized a dedicated police task force to locate him. Authorities confirmed that he was rescued during an intelligence-driven operation in Wepener, Free State. Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele expressed relief at Kamogelo’s safe recovery, stating, “The safe recovery of young Kamogelo is a moment of great relief for the family, the community, and all of us.”
The investigation into Kamogelo’s abduction revealed a troubling trend of kidnappings in the area, prompting local leaders to call for increased community vigilance and safety measures. Community member Thandiwe Mokoena shared her thoughts with vene team, saying, “We are grateful for Kamogelo’s safe return; this incident has shaken us. We need to come together to ensure our children are safe.”
During the operation, six suspects were arrested, including a police sergeant who had previously been charged with kidnapping and extortion. The suspects are facing serious charges, and the investigation is ongoing. Legal experts suggest that the involvement of a police officer in such a crime raises significant concerns about trust within the community.
Kamogelo’s family expressed deep gratitude for the support they received during the search. His mother added, “We are overwhelmed with joy and relief. Thank you to everyone who helped us during this difficult time; your support means the world to us.” While Kamogelo appears to be in good health, he will undergo medical check-ups to ensure his well-being.
