MK Party Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela Sues Floyd Shivambu

Spokesperson for the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party Nhlamulo Ndhlela has filed a defamation lawsuit against former Secretary General Floyd Shivambu. This legal action follows public accusations made by Shivambu during a press conference at the Mhulu Luxury Boutique Hotel in Midrand.

Shivambu alleged that Ndhlela abuses alcohol and drugs, claims that Ndhlela vehemently denies. In the R3 million lawsuit Ndhlela asserts that Shivambu’s statements have caused significant reputational harm and led to widespread mockery on social media. He describes the impact of these allegations on his mental health stating that they have resulted in anxiety and humiliation.

Ndhlela expressed his determination to protect his reputation, “These claims are not only false but also malicious. I will not stand by while my character is attacked without basis.” he said. He had previously issued a letter demanding a public apology and retraction from Shivambu. After Shivambu failed to respond, Ndhlela proceeded with the lawsuit.

Shivambu has not publicly responded to the lawsuit. Political analysts suggest that the allegations and subsequent legal action highlight ongoing tensions within the MK Party particularly regarding accountability and responsible communication among its members.

Legal experts note that defamation cases in South Africa require the plaintiff to prove that the statements made were false and damaging.

Public reaction to the allegations on social media has been mixed with some supporting Ndhlela and others questioning the motivations behind the lawsuit.
